Baby Shower Gift - Unique Diaper Cakes

Bicycle

There are so many tiered diaper cakes out there, ones you can make and even buy. But I wanted something better, something that not everyone can easily make or buy... and found that there's a way you can make tricycles, bicycles, and more... out of baby stuff and diapers!

Bassinet and Bicycle Diaper Cakes

Bicycle Diaper Cake

Materials Used:

30 Pampers size 4 diapers (15 in each wheel)
1 baby bibs
1 pairs of baby socks
2 receiving blankets
2 burp cloths
2 wash cloths
3 newborn onesies
1 baby sipper cup
1 teddy bear
1 roll of 1 1/2" ribbon
1 roll of 3/8" ribbon
rubber bands and safety pins

Side View

The bicycle is similar to the tricycle in its contruction except for the number of wheels. You can vary the number of materials used to make the diaper cake. For example, instead of using another bib to cover the rear wheel, a long burp cloth and a pack of three newborn onesies were used on top of the rear wheel to make it look more like a seat.

Bicycle Diaper Cake with Platform

The platform was made out of size 3 diapers. I like using size 3 or 4 diapers because the receiver of the gift doesn't have to take it apart right away. The photos were taken unwrapped, but it is always a good idea to wrap the finished diaper cake in celophane to keep the materials "fresh" and dust-free!

Baby Shower Gift - Unique Diaper Cakes

Tricycle

There are so many tiered diaper cakes out there, ones you can make and even buy. But I wanted something better, something that not everyone can easily make or buy... and found that there's a way you can make tricycles, bicycles, and more... out of baby stuff and diapers!

 Tricycle and Bicycle Diaper Cakes

Tricycle Diaper Cake

Materials Used:

45 Pampers size 3 diapers (15 in each wheel)
2 baby bibs
2 pairs of baby socks
2 receiving blankets
3 burp cloths
1 baby sipper cup
1 teddy bear
1 roll of 1 1/2" ribbon
1 roll of 1" ribbon
rubber bands and safety pins (lots of them!)

At first, I think it took over 3 hours to make... trying to figure it out and then to make it look "presentable." Once it was finally done, I thought it looked great,
but I it was missing the "wow effect." So~

I added a platform! The tricycle needs a road after all!
(made out of a shoe box, foam core board, about 30 more diapers, and 2.7" ribbon)

Once I was done, I didn't really want to give it away!
(But being a great friend, of course I did...)

I'm not going to lie, it takes patience to build. (Lots of it especially if you've never made one before.) 3 hours probably sound like forever, but it was actually really fun and time just flew by!
(the second time I was able to finish one in half the time, so it does get easier. :) )

Bottom line is,
If you are looking for a gift idea other than what is on the baby registry, these diaper cakes definitely make great gifts and also serve as creative centerpieces.
I've "exhibited" these diaper cakes at many baby showers, and so far~

It has been a 100% guaranteed adoration by the mommy-to-be and all the guests!
